Since the beginning of 2025, Vietnam has seen a dramatic decline in road accidents

Traffic accidents and fatalities have seen a notable decline in the first two months of 2025, according to Vietnam’s National Traffic Safety Committee.

From Jan. 15 to Feb. 14, there were 1,616 traffic accidents nationwide, resulting in 882 deaths and 1,131 injuries, down by 824 (33.77%), 177 (16.71%), and 789 (41.09%) year-on-year respectively, according to data from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, the Vietnam Maritime Administration, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

The sharpest decrease was seen on the roads, with 1,596 accidents, 868 fatalities, and 1,127 injuries recorded. This represented a reduction of 828 accidents (34.16%), 180 deaths (17.18%), and 788 injuries (41.15%) compared to the same period last year.

On the other hand, there were more accidents and fatalities on the trains, with 16 accidents and 11 fatalities, up 77.78% and 57.14%, respectively. Accidents on the waterways decreased significantly, with only four leading to three fatalities and one injury, which is a decrease of 42.86%, 25%, and 50%, respectively. During that time, no maritime accidents were reported.

In the two months between December 15, 2024, and February 14, 2025, there were 3,443 road accidents nationwide, resulting in 1,868 fatalities and 2,312 injuries.

Accidents decreased by 1,436 (29.43%), fatalities by 189 (9.19%), and injuries by 1,616 (41.14%) as compared to the same time in 2024.

With 3,408 incidents, 1,843 fatalities, and 2,306 injuries—down 29.6%, 9.26%, and 41.2% year over year—road accidents made up the bulk.

The railroads recorded 24 accidents, 16 fatalities, and five injuries—a decrease of 11.11% and 27.27%, respectively, but an increase of 25%. The number of accidents and fatalities on the waterways increased by 22.22% and 125%, respectively, with 11 accidents and nine fatalities.
